Lowe's Companies, Inc. (NYSE: LOW) announced today the acquisition of ATG Stores, a leading online retailer of home improvement and lifestyle products based in Kirkland, Wash. The acquisition underscores Lowe's commitment to providing an endless aisle of products.
The acquisition allows Lowe's and ATG Stores to capitalize on complementary strengths and employees' extensive expertise by sharing best practices for online marketing and merchandising. Utilizing ATG Stores' broad assortment of products and its strong online retailing operation is just another way Lowe's will deliver better customer experiences.

ATG Stores will remain an independent, wholly-owned subsidiary of Lowe's Companies, Inc. The two organizations will maintain separate branding and independent assortment planning and merchandising. All ATG jobs will remain in Kirkland, and no jobs will be lost as a result of the acquisition. By combining the expertise and capabilities of Lowe's and ATG Stores, each organization will experience growth through expanded assortments and broader customer insights which ultimately lead to better customer experiences.

ATGStores.com is rounding out 2011 in a large way. Aligning with record growth in sales in the 12th year of operation, nearly doubling its gross sales in 2011, ATG Stores added nearly 900 new brands and reached a record 3.5 million products available on its specialty online stores.

Today, ATGStores.com announced their plans to hire 150 employees at its Kirkland, WA headquarters in the 2011 year due to its rapid sales growth. ATGStores is coming upon its 12-year anniversary in July, and the company has had 12 years of continuous growth since its' founding in 2000. Because of its heavy investment in people, products and systems they believe they are uniquely positioned to ride the wave of recovery despite the economic downturns in recent years.
Year-to-date sales have skyrocketed nearly 60% compared to the same period in 2010 and the company continues to have record-breaking months in sales. The large spike in growth is attributed to increased internet traffic to its 500+ websites, improved conversion rates, internal testing and analytics.
In addition to internal changes, ATGStores has made expansions to its company brand by adding new categories of business, such as Furniture, Sporting Goods and Apparel & Accessories, while still maintaining strong sales growth in existing categories. ATGStores.com is launching their new sample knob program to allow customers a chance to sample a variety of knobs for their home at a great price before making a full purchase of to upgrade their kitchen, bathroom or furniture.
Customers who are looking to make a large purchase of knobs and pulls to upgrade or renovate their kitchen or bathroom cupboards can opt to us the sample knob program to try out a few knobs before they buy. For just $10, a customer can choose three different styles or finishes of knobs and pulls to test out in their home. The program allows them to see the products in-person and decide which the best option for his or her home is.
"This is just another innovation from ATGStores.com to help improve the experience for our customers," says Michael Pinkowski. "By giving online shoppers a chance to see products in-person before making a large purchase decision is a great way to get the best of both shopping worlds: online and in-store."
There are 675 knobs and pulls that are eligible as part of the knob sample project. All these knobs are available in a wide range of colors and finishes. When choosing three knobs to sample, customers must choose knobs that are different styles of finishes and all must be made from the same manufacturer. Participating partner manufacturers are Amerock, Top Knobs, Belwith, Siro Designs and Atlas Homewares. Each sample knob must cost under $8.
